Humanitarian Missions
Since its creation, Eqwal Foundation has supported organizations and associations by training medical teams in the professions of prosthetist and orthotist-prosthetist.

Thailand
Since 2023, Eqwal Foundation has carried out seven humanitarian missions along the Thailand–Myanmar border, particularly in the cities of Mae Sot and Mae Hong Son. The main objective of these interventions is to train Thai and Burmese healthcare professionals in measurement taking, prosthesis manufacturing, and fitting for amputees. These missions actively involve volunteer orthotist-prosthetists and workshop technicians from the Eqwal network, who contribute their expertise to patient care, particularly for war amputees fitted on-site with the support of trainees.
Prior to in-person training, healthcare trainees also benefit from remote training in prosthetic fitting. This is complemented by guidance on material selection and the setup of local production workshops. Ahead of each mission, Eqwal’s orthopedic centers collect and refurbish prosthetic components to give them a second life.

Jordan
In May 2025, a mission conducted in Amman, Jordan, by an orthotist-prosthetist from Eqwal Ability Belgium and Médecins Sans Frontières provided medical support in a challenging context. Throughout the week, teams focused on patient follow-up and the development of innovative 3D printing solutions, including scanner testing, device design, and material selection. These exchanges led to promising advances in the production of modular orthopedic devices, with several functional and conceptual prototypes opening new perspectives for the future.

Guinea
In Guinea, an orthotist-prosthetist from one of our French agencies carried out two humanitarian missions led by Eqwal Foundation and SESEP, focusing on knowledge sharing and improving orthopedic care. Activities included delivering theoretical training to physiotherapy students, conducting consultations for children supported by the Fitima association, and collaborating with teams at the National Orthopedic Center. The mission also included the installation of foam seating solutions to improve comfort for young patients, demonstrating a concrete commitment to strengthening local practices and enhancing children’s quality of life.

Senegal
In 2026, Eqwal Foundation launched its first humanitarian mission in Senegal in partnership with Nav’Solidaire, an organization dedicated to recycling and redistributing prosthetic components across Africa. This initiative primarily aims to train and support local orthotist-prosthetists as part of a sustainable approach. On-site, two experts from our Belgian agencies began training local teams and treating patients, marking the start of a long-term collaboration that will continue through future missions planned in 2026.
